History

Serving the Lab Since 1986
Under the auspices of the Livermore Laboratory Employee Services Association (LLESA), the LLESA Children’s Center opened its doors in September 1986, providing childcare services for 60 children with ten employees. Since that time, the program has grown to accommodate over 125 children and 35 employees.

The Children’s Center has also partnered with the local community college by providing student teacher practicum opportunities through the college’s early childhood education program for the last twenty-four years.

In 1994, an infant care component was added to the Children’s Center, with care for babies starting at six weeks old. The addition of this program completed the options available to working families, allowing seamless childcare opportunities for children from birth through elementary school age.

Balancing Work & Family

The Children’s Center provides an opportunity for Laboratory employees to focus on their career paths knowing their children are being well cared for and nurtured by an exceptional and stable teaching staff. Located approximately one mile away from the Laboratory on a functioning public school site, the Children’s Center’s proximity allows parents to visit their children at any time during the day. The Children’s Center also follows the Laboratory’s work calendar, providing seamless child care services to LLNL employees.

Our Staff

Two words characterize the program best – quality and consistency. Low ratios, small class sizes, and an educated, experienced, professional early care and education teaching staff clearly define the Children’s Center’s quality of services. A consistent teaching staff is also a key component to quality care.
